What is infill?

Infill means the filling of 3D printing, that is, in practice, how much plastic is inside. It can be anything between 0-100%, and its selection depends on the purpose of the object being printed.

If you are printing, for example, decorative objects that do not have to withstand a lot of stress, you can use a lighter infill (~10%). In general, 30-50% filling is sufficient for a piece that needs to withstand heavier stress.

Which filament do I choose?

PLA

One of the most common materials used in 3D printing. Made from renewable material such as corn starch or sugar beet. Generally speaking, easy to print.

  • Maximum operating temperature: ~60 ºC
  • Hardness: ★ ☆ ☆
  • Applications: Interiors, decorative items, prototypes, toys…

PLA+

An advanced version of PLA. Additives have been added to the normal PLA mixture to improve the properties. Better mechanical durability and flexibility, as well as higher temperature resistance are the most significant of them.

  • Maximum operating temperature: ~70 ºC
  • Hardness: ★ ★ ☆
  • Applications: Indoors, outdoors, decorative objects, prototypes, toys...

PETG

Also a common material in 3D printing. The same material is used in soda bottles (PET), but glycol has been added to it, giving it the name PETG. Durable and flexible material that withstands shocks and twisting. Resistant to temperature fluctuations and UV light. Because of this, it is very good for outdoor spaces. Compared to PLA, the surface is more shiny.

  • Maximum operating temperature: ~80 ºC
  • Hardness: ★ ★ ★
  • Areas of use: Indoors, outdoor spaces, utility...
